That First Night In Amsterdam - W. Weaselhausen (Poetry)

Updated: Sep 20, 2018

In this poem, a young couple reminisces about their first night living in Amsterdam, and falling in love all over again. It is a simply beautiful piece that will transport you, and warm your heart.

How well I remember that first night in Amsterdam,

Down by the canal, our new lives began,

Under the tears of a cold, wintry sky

And red lights reflected in your eyes.

Every riverboat promised enchantment

Every cobblestone chased the riverbend

Every crooked house with history groaned

And hand-in-hand we made the city our own.

In dusty cafes with dusty cats

We drank and laughed and sat

As new candles reduced to wax

The world just passed us by,

Like the moment that lives in the ghost of a smile.
